‘Pay it Forward’ – 30 Volunteers Help Fit Out a Home

Habitat for Humanity Victoria had one of our largest corporate volunteer days in partnership with O’Brien Electrical and Plumbing Rowville late last year. 30 volunteers from the O’Brien team worked alongside our Housing Program Supervisors on Unit 4 of our Crib Point Affordable Housing Project – which will soon become home to our Partner family Michelle, Stewart, and their children.

In an initiative the O’Brien team call ‘Pay it Forward’, a collective effort to lend their skills to a blitz volunteer day was organised to support our Home-Building program. The jobs for the day include installation of fences, a gate, an outdoor clothesline, along with various internal fixtures. Other team members helped with painting, landscaping, and cleaning around the property. With a team of this size and competency, we made significant progress in getting Michelle and Stewart’s new family home ready. They will receive keys to their new forever home soon in January 2024.

In addition, the O’Brien team generously donated two sets of solar panels for Units 4 and 5, which they brought and installed on the day. This will help provide a long-term benefit to both Michelle and Stewart’s family and Celeste’s family.
